454 / Built for the workflow

The 454 process

Watch TJ’s overview, then move through the stages below. Drying time and handling needs vary with the material, environment and equipment.

The 454 post-harvest process

01Drying

Start with a controlled drying environment and monitor conditions throughout the batch. Plant size, cultivar and preparation all influence the time required. Use observations and appropriate measurements rather than a calendar alone.

02Curing

The original 454 process moves dried material into lined totes for continued handling and curing. Monitor the material and conditions as moisture redistributes. A storage bag does not replace environmental control.

03Trimming

Trimming can overlap with the curing workflow. Keep batches identifiable and handle material gently as it moves between workstations and storage.

04Packaging

Choose packaging for the intended use, batch size and handling requirements. Check product dimensions, closure type and pack quantities before ordering.

05Long-term storage

Plan the storage environment as well as the packaging. Keep batches labeled and review the relevant product specifications for storage and closure requirements.

This is an overview of the existing 454 video, not a guarantee of a fixed completion time.
